Stop motion animation blog

Stop Motion Animation - Blog

I looked at a variety of you tube clips for inspiration and I found the wooden figure very interesting. I thought that there are many ways that I could experiment with it and create different effects.

The idea of my animation is to bring a wooden figure to life. There are two characters that will be involved in the animation, the wooden figure, and my brother, Nathan. The animation will begin with Nathan working at his desk, and then the wooden figure will do a variety of things to annoy him. However, Nathan will not know that it is the figure. The pranks include, turning on the music so that it scares him, throwing objects at him, dancing, talking, attempting to fly, climbing up the bed, turning the lights off. It will be based in Nathan’s bedroom, this is because he has a high bed with a desk underneath and the figure needs to climb up the bedposts in order to switch the lights off. It needs to be dark because otherwise switching the lights off will not have a very good effect; it needs to be pitch black when he turns them off. Nathan will then turn his desk lamp on whilst looking confused.

My aim is to make my animation humorous because based on past research; people enjoy humorous clips more than other types. My target audience is the younger generation, from 5-18. This is because the concept is not too complicated therefore they would be able to understand it, but also this is because the humorous effect would be more suited to this age range.

The possible problems that I may encounter include the wooden figure not being able to walk because of the round base that holds the figure upright. I may also have a problem when it comes to Nathan because it will be hard to move him and the figure at the same time to make it look realistic. I may also have some time related problems because a large part of it needs to be filmed in one go and Nathan will get easily bored.

These are the clips that inspired me:
